Legislation allowing charter schools in Maine becomes law Sept. 28. But questions are already starting about creating new schools, converting existing public schools to charter status and enrolling students in charter schools.
A new web page from the Maine Department of Education explains Maine’s new charter school law and provides answers to some of the most common questions about the statute.

The page will be updated with additional information as the charter school law is implemented, the State Charter School Commission takes shape and charter schools open their doors in Maine, which will happen July 1, 2012 at the earliest.
