The Maine Department of Education delivered a progress report on the implementation of the state’s new public charter schools law to the Legislature’s Education Committee on Dec. 12.
The report, “Implementing Maine’s Public Charter School Law,” can be found in the “Recent Developments” section of the Maine DOE’s Charter Schools website, at http://maine.gov/education/charterschools/.
The document describes implementation progress made to date by the Department of Education, the Maine State Board of Education and the newly formed State Charter School Commission. It also makes recommendations to the Legislature for a number of statutory changes to clarify aspects of the law.
