Charter schools rule proposal revised

The Maine Department of Education has revised its proposed rules governing public charter schools in response to comments from the public.

The revised proposal for Rule Chapter 140 has been posted to the Department of Education’s Proposed Rules and Rule Changes web page, at www.maine.gov/education/rulechanges.htm#chapter140.

In addition to a copy of the revised rule proposal, the Department has posted to the same page a summary of public comments offered in response to the original proposal and the Department’s response to each.

The Chapter 140 rule proposal will next be taken up by the Legislature, which must approve the rules in order for them to take effect. A public hearing before the Legislature’s Education Committee has yet to be scheduled.
