Students present at Google conference in New York City.Three Nokomis Regional High School students presented during the Google Teacher Academy at Google’s New York City headquarters on Oct. 3, 2012.

Students (from left to right) Kris Redman, Jared Gay and Chandler Cossar explained the technology tools they use every day to educators from around the world. They covered RSU 19’s unique management of digital portfolios and shared their self-developed Mileage Tracker Template form, which allows teachers to track driving mileage and auto calculates the distance traveled using Google Maps API.

The conference inspired the students to offer weekly live tech support help sessions every Tuesday at 3 p.m., open to people across the world. You can find out more at their website, www.techsherpas.org.

Kern Kelley, educational technologist for RSU 19, brought the students to the two-day conference, where he keynoted on school-wide implementation of Google Apps for Education.
