Jay Ketner joins Maine DOE as World Languages Specialist

Dr. Jay Ketner has joined the Maine DOE as its World Languages Specialist. In his new role, Ketner will support districts in their implementation of best practices in world languages education and serve as the regional representative for Cumberland County.

Ketner brings a passion for world languages assessment and a deep understanding of instructional practice. He has gained his expertise working with students and teachers at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and for the last three and half years as a visiting professor of French at Bowdoin College.

Ketner earned a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Georgia, a Masters in French from the University of Vermont and a Ph.D. in French from the University of Minnesota.  He is excited about using his knowledge and skills in the context of K-12 education and having the opportunity to build language and cultural opportunities for Maine students and educators.
