Maine’s Teacher of the Year asks for votes

The Department is encouraging Mainers to vote for Karen MacDonald, the current Maine Teacher of the Year, in her quest to win a $2,500 grant to extend learning opportunities to struggling students in Portland.

MacDonald, an English language arts teacher at King Middle School, submitted her proposal to provide continued funding for a unique and meaningful partnership created two years ago with a local after-school center to the Farmers Insurance Thank a Million Teachers project. MacDonald is the only Maine teacher in the contest.

Farmers Insurance will award $2,500 grants to the top six vote winners from each region of the country. MacDonald’s “Seize the Day! Extend the Day!”  entry is currently in the top six in the Eastern region.  You can view her proposal and place your vote in three steps here. Step 1: Search for “Maine” or “MacDonald,” hit the GO button; Step 2: enter your email address and verify your age; Step 3: place your Vote! Please note: In order for your vote to count, you must check your email and verify your vote.
