Resources from principals as instructional leaders workshops available, Aroostook County session to be held Dec. 17

The resources provided by the Maine DOE during its November regional workshops focused on principals as instructional leaders are now available on the Department’s website.

The principals and mathematics coaches who attended the sessions report they saw great value in the Principles to Action resources that were shared and appreciated the opportunity to have discussions about effective mathematics instructional strategies in order to ensure all students meet proficiency. Participants suggested that the resources, which can help teachers understand the mathematics shifts and focus on instructional strategies to support learning, could be used in multiple ways within Maine schools including as the basis of a book study in grade level teams.

The workshop resources can be found on the Resources for Supporting Maine Schools on the Maine DOE website. The Department’s Mathematics Specialist Michele Mailhot will also be recording a brief webinar this month outlining further strategies for using these tools in district-based professional development.

Additionally, the Maine DOE will offer its final Principals As Instructional Leaders workshop on Dec. 17 in Aroostook County. For more information or to register, contact the Department’s Standards-Based Education Specialist Diana Doiron at diana.doiron@maine.gov or 624-6823.
