Research internships available for high school juniors

The Maine Space Grant Consortium has funds available to support a limited number of summer research internships for highly motivated Maine high school juniors during the summer of 2012.

The Maine Research Internships for Teachers and Students, or MERITS, Program provides summer research opportunities for motivated high school students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers. The internships allow students to experience workplace applications of STEM concepts at host institutions conducting research and technology development.

Through the internship program, the Maine Space Grant Consortium seeks to expose students to career opportunities in Maine and provide a direct way for Maine businesses and research communities to attract young people with high potential for possible future employment.

Since its inception in 1992, MERITS has provided summer internships to hundreds of high school students and teachers at more than 70 businesses and
non-profit laboratories across Maine.

Applications for summer 2012 internships are due Dec. 9, 2011.
