Students from more than 30 Maine schools will participate in testing as part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) this school year.
- A sample of students from seven middle schools will participate in the Technology and Engineering Literacy Task Tryout — a sampling of questions that will help NAEP officials complete their design of the new Technology and Engineering Literacy Assessment. The participating schools are: Jordan Small Middle School in Raymond, Wells Junior High School, Whittier Middle School in Poland, Camden-Rockport Middle School, Madison Junior High School, Shapleigh Middle School in Kittery and Maranacook Community Middle School in Readfield.
- At the high school level, a sample of students from 11 Maine high schools will participate in the grade 12 assessment in math, reading or economics. At the fourth-grade level, a sample of students from 11 elementary schools will participate in the computer-based writing assessment. The participating schools cannot be named as a condition of their participation in NAEP.
- Throughout the 2011-12 school year, a sample of nine-year-olds from five Maine schools, a sample of 13-year-olds from three Maine schools and a sample of 17-year-olds from three high schools will participate in NAEP Long-Term Trend Assessment in reading and math. The Long-Term Trend Assessment measures growth in achievement among students across the United States. As a condition of their participation in the assessment, the participating schools cannot be named.
