U.S. DOE plans Civil Rights Data Collection

The U.S. Department of Education is planning to reach out directly to all school districts and state-operated educational facilities — including juvenile justice facilities and centers for students with disabilities — for the 2011-12 Civil Rights Data Collection. This is the first such collection from public schools since 2000.

The Civil Rights Data Collection aims to obtain information related to U.S. public schools’ obligation to provide equal educational opportunity. Information about the data collection process and the types of data collected are available on the website of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.

Within the coming month, the Office of Civil Rights expects to send letters to all superintendents about the data collection. Contact the Office at 800-421-3481 or EDEN_CRDC@ed.gov with questions.
