Week highlights school counselor contributions

The annual National School Counseling Week focuses on celebrating the positive impact professional school counselors have in helping students achieve success in school and plan for the future.

The 2012 National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, takes place Feb. 6-10. Legislators and others are invited to meet with Maine school counselors in the State House Hall of Flags on Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn more about the role school counselors play in providing comprehensive school support to students.

Professional school counselors are certified with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. They work with students, staff, parents and the community to support students in becoming prepared for college, careers and civic life.

Gov. Paul LePage will issue a proclamation recognizing School Counselor Week in Maine.
