The second (and final) public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards was released Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. The Maine DOE, Achieve, and NSTA encourage teachers to review the draft and provide feedback to Achieve during the comment period, which ends Jan. 29.
The Department has developed two webpages, Next Generation Science Standards and Next Generation Science Standards Release, with information about NGSS. Please visit these web pages to review the NGSS draft and submit your input through the NGSS online feedback survey. NSTA released the following information about supports for NGSS.
To help your school/district prepare to review and provide comment on the second NGSS draft, a special web seminar on organizing and leading a study group will be offered on Monday, January 7. Harold Pratt, NSTA past president, and Ted Willard, director of NSTA’s efforts around NGSS, will lead this popular seminar. Register for this web seminar here. The final NGSS standards are expected to be released in late March. This will be the last public opportunity to add your voice to the science standards that are expected to change the teaching and learning of science nationwide.
