Meeting offered for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders

Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders are invited to attend the Critical Decisions: The Journey to Adulthood for Your Son/Daughter with ASD meeting, sponsored by the Maine DOE and the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. This meeting will be held Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of Maine, Orono in the Union.

When a child is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, families begin a journey to prepare their son or daughter for reaching their maximum potential as adults. Along the way, there are decisions to make, skills to teach, behaviors to alter, and services to access. This parent group meeting will discuss critical decisions that are part of this transition process to adulthood, and factors and strategies to consider. Dr. Cathy Pratt, director of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism, will speak at the event. Following the presentation, attendees will have a chance to answer question and share strategies.

Please register online for this event, which is completely free of charge.
