Preview new English language proficiency test

The 31 states that have banded together to create a new, computer-based assessment system for English language learners are getting their first glimpses at the new English-language proficiency exam being developed to measure the language demands of the Common Core State Standards. Prototypes will be available to the public in the summer.

The Maine DOE serves on the steering committee as a member of ASSETS–a 31-state consortium–building on the work of the WIDA Consortium, to create the next generation of English Language Proficiency tests. The Consortium’s work is supported through a federal Enhanced Assessment Grant with plans for full operationalization of the new assessment system in 2015-16.
