Elementary through high school students are invited to participate in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), which will be held at local schools and various colleges across the state beginning Nov. 19.
These annual competitions aim to increase student interest in mathematics and develop problem-solving skills. Participants benefit from the chance to challenge others with mathematical questions that are aligned with curriculum standards at all levels of difficulty. Additionally, AMC is the only way for a student to reach the USA Mathematical Olympiad.
AMC 8 Competition
This level of the competition is for students ages eight to 14.5 and will take place Nov. 19.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 competitions are for high school students, grades 9-12, and will take place Feb. 4 and 19.

Schools may register to offer the competition at their school for a $35 registration fee. If your school does not participate in the AMC, you may participate at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, at Colby College in Waterville, at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor or at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
