Stephanie Galeucia has been named the Maine DOE’s new Student Assistance Coordinator. Among her primary responsibilities in this role are providing indirect support to students being bullied in Maine schools and helping parents and administrators better understand the Restraint and Seclusion of Students rule.
For the last five years, Galeucia worked for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adults with Disabilities, overseeing services provided to adults with disabilities throughout York County. She transitioned into her previous position at DHHS after more than 10 years in public education serving as Assistant Principal and Interim Principal at Noble Middle School.
As a school administrator, Galeucia designed and implemented the team approach to student discipline, served on the student assistance team, worked with teams to align curriculum to the Maine Learning Results and had an active role in moving Noble Junior High to the middle school model.
Prior to serving as Assistant Principal at Noble Middle School, she worked in Special Education as an Individualized Education Program and 504 Coordinator and frequently consulted with teachers on best practices regarding effective instruction for students with severe to moderate disabilities as well as consulted on cases where behaviors were viewed as extreme.
A licensed social worker, Galeucia spent three years managing “York County Special Education Compact,” a program designed for students who exhibited challenging behaviors and at risk. She is also a trained domestic violence advocate, and has spent time co-facilitating a women’s group.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University and later in life pursued a Master’s in Special Education and achieved a school administrative certification through the University of Southern Maine and the University of New England.
Overall, Galeucia enjoys thinking outside of the box, working collaboratively and engaging in problem solving strategies to improve school climate and student learning.
