More than 50 secondary student members of the Maine FFA (formerly known as Future Farmers of America) gathered at the Senator Inn in Augusta earlier this month to practice leadership skills related to communication and taking on responsibility.
The one-day training was conducted by four student State FFA Officers including President Whitnie Bradbury, Vice President Carly Grass, Secretary-Treasurer Jordan Canney and Reporter-Sentinel Tyler Raymond with guidance from State FFA Advisor Doug Robertson of the Maine DOE.
Student participants came from Oxford Hills Technical School, Region Ten Technical High School (Brunswick), Sanford Regional Technical Center and Waldo County Technical Center where they are currently enrolled in technical programs including forestry, horticulture, landscaping and natural resources. Highlights included participants working together to define “leadership,” taking part in engaging activities related to leadership concepts and getting the opportunity to meet peers from other schools.
Following the training, students returned to their home schools and FFA chapters to continue their studies of agriculture and natural resources and to become involved in a range of community projects and opportunities for recognition.
