Students invited to do service projects to benefit Toys for Tots

Maine schools are invited to engage students in service to others through the 2014 Joy Maker Challenge this holiday season.

The Joy Maker Challenge connects students in grades K-12 to meaningful, hands-on service projects during the holiday season. The initiative is sponsored by Hasbro, which donates a Hasbro toy or game to Toys for Tots for each action a child or teen takes to help others.

Schools can get service project ideas and sign-up at www.generationon.org/joymaker. Those who have already completed service projects are also invited to share their story at the same site to trigger a donation of a toy or game from Hasbro.

  1. As always, thanks for your feedback, Nancy. They did notify us earlier than this week, but we didn’t have space in last week’s issue of the Commissioner’s Update. We include non-Department opportunities as space allows and given all the new resources the Department has been releasing to support schools, simply haven’t had the space until now for this outside opportunity.

  2. Maybe next year Hasbro could provide more notice. Some schools are out for the holidays in fewer than 10 calendar days.
