Educators invited to winter wellness workshop

The Maine DOE is hosting a one-day workshop next month in Augusta focused on supporting the development and implementation of successful school-based health promotion programs for staff and students that ultimately improve student achievement.

The Feb. 6 winter wellness workshop will provide a forum for Wellness Teams to network; share action plan ideas, activities, and strategies; and provides guidance and professional development to strengthen schoolsite health promotion programs and their connection to school improvement.

Denise Delores, a health educator with Maine General’s Wellness Works program, and Penny Townsend, the wellness manager for Cianbro, are among the day’s featured presenters. Additionally, a panel of school-based health experts will share how they have used data to show positive program impact.

This workshop is open to all Maine schools and both teams and individuals are encouraged to attend.   It is being held on Friday, Feb. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Florian Hall at the Maine Department of Public Safety on 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta.
