School construction projects in the state are continuing to progress as the Maine DOE School Facilities team works with the 12 highest-rated school systems based on need from the 2010-11 rating cycle.
The twelve approved projects (projects one through 12) are at various stages of the 21-step school construction process. The following three projects: RSU 64 Corinth Elementary, RSU 72 Fryeburg Elementary, and Sanford High School/Career and Technical Center, have received local voter approval. Of those three, RSU 64 and RSU 72 are presently under construction and will open for students in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
All nine of the remaining projects are in the early planning process and are projected to open by 2020. Collectively the twelve projects will serve approximately 9,500 students, close 100 temporary classrooms, close 25 outdated schools, and support 70 communities.
