Commission adds sessions in Presque Isle, Machias to hear from public about rural educational needs
AUGUSTA – The Maine State Charter School Commission will travel to Aroostook and Washington counties in early April to hear from the public about regional educational needs that could be addressed by charter schools.
The Maine Department of Education is accepting nominations for the 2013 Maine Teacher of the Year through Feb. 29, 2012. Anyone — parents, students, fellow teachers, administrators — can nominate a teacher for this special recognition.
The 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year, Alana Margeson from Caribou High School, and the five finalists were honored at a banquet and awards ceremony Friday evening in Bangor. Margeson received the title of 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year in a surprise all-school assembly in September.
Surprise! Morgan Cuthbert receives the prestigious award in front of students and colleagues
YARMOUTH – A seventh-grade mathematics and science teacher in his 12th year of teaching was honored at a surprise all-school assembly Monday afternoon with the presentation of a prestigious national teaching award, and a check for $25,000. Maine Department of Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen presented the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award to Morgan Cuthbert in front of students, colleagues, and local and state dignitaries at Frank H. Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth.
