Maine FFA officers celebrate Maine Agriculture Day at the Legislature

Student state officers from the Maine FFA Association (formerly known as “Future Farmers of America”) celebrated Maine Agriculture Day at the Legislature March 27. State officers were presented to both chambers of the Maine State Legislature, staffed a display in the Hall of Flags, and attended the culminating luncheon at the State Grange, with food served courtesy of the Grange and the Maine Aquaculture Association.

On their way to Maine Agriculture Day, state officers stopped in Clinton to visit the state-of-the-art dairy farm and milking parlor run by the Flood Brothers. During their stay in Augusta, Maine’s FFA state officers described to legislators and other guests the expansion of their organization throughout the state. Maine FFA also provides leadership workshops and other events to its nearly 500 middle and secondary school members.

FFA membership is limited to students enrolled in courses related to agriculture and natural resources, including areas such as horticulture and forestry, as well as science curricula with real-world applications to such fields as plant genetics, wildlife and soils.
