Response rates for youth health survey released, data to follow

Final student response and school participation rates for the 2013 Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) are now available. Subsequent data and reports will be released before the end of December.

The final rates, posted in a table below, determine whether or not data for state, public health districts and individual counties for the various grade-span modules will be released. In order to have “reportable” county or public health district data, an overall response rate of 60 percent is required (overall response rate equals percent of schools multiplied by percent of students participating).

ICF Macro is in the process of preparing data sets, checking data quality and reviewing early drafts of reports. Raw data and reports will be finalized simultaneously, so data requests for 2013 information will not be available prior to the release of the reports.

Some schools and school administrative units (SAU) participated in regions that are not receiving reportable data. If you want to receive this confidential data, you will need to obtain approval from the superintendent of the SAU or the school principal.

Each principal and superintendent of MIYHS-participating schools will receive a MIYHS website login prior to the 2013 data release. Stephen Corral, data and research specialist for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, will be assigning login information based on the DOE directory of schools. Logins will be used to securely access confidential school and SAU reports from the website for the 2009, 2011 and 2013 editions of the survey. If you find a discrepancy regarding your school or SAU in the DOE directory of schools, please email stephen.corral@maine.gov.
