Educators invited to emergency preparedness conference

The 6th Annual Maine Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference will be held April 22-23 at the Augusta Civic Center, and include a strong focus on school security. More than 40 workshops and demonstrations are scheduled during the free two-day event with statewide, national and international preparedness partners.

Superintendents, school boards, teachers and school administrators involved in school security are especially encouraged to attend the opening day of the conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. That day, the keynote address, a panel discussion and an afternoon of scenario-based security discussions will be presented by national school safety and security expert Michael Dorn, executive director of Safe Havens International, Inc. Also, Education Commissioner Jim Rier will provide a briefing on Maine’s school security reports that were recently presented to the Legislature.
