Maine DOE is requiring staff that require certification, authorization or approval (criminal history background checks) and are paid by schools under contractual agreements to be reported to the State staff information system, NEO Staff, in order for the schools (and the State Department of Education) to be in compliance with State statutes and rules.
The Department requires the following be entered into the new data system: all staff employed by a school district, contractors with unsupervised sustained direct contact with students, such as contracted bus drivers, taxi drivers hired to transport special education students, all contracted school nurses, and volunteers or paid chaperones if they are unsupervised. The schools’ contractual service providers must forward to the school the necessary personnel information for them to be in compliance with statute and rules.
