MIT seeks math, science teachers to pilot STEM learning game

Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT’s) Scheller Teacher Education Program and Education Arcade were recently awarded a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop an immersive virtual learning environment to support high school math and biology instruction. The resulting Radix Endeavor, a multi-player online game, will be available for pilot during the 2013-14 academic year. Throughout the development process, MIT has been working collaboratively with teachers to create a game that incorporates:

  • A flexible, web-based design that allows students to play anywhere, anytime—in school or at home
  • Quest-based learning aligned with current biology standards in genetics, ecosystems, evolution and human body systems as well as math standards in algebra, geometry, statistics and probability
  • Optional lesson plans and support materials that allow teachers to easily integrate the game into classroom instruction

To learn more about the game, view a recently recorded informational webinar or visit www.radixendeavor.org, where you will find a brief trailer and background information about the project, or contact radix-info@mit.edu.
