Following enactment of the Maine Educator Effectiveness law in 2012, the Maine DOE worked for over a year to finalize the rules that govern the development and implementation of performance evaluation and professional growth (PEPG) systems for teachers and principals.
With the final adoption of Chapter 180, came the opportunity for the Department to begin working on a state PEPG model for teachers and principals and to finalize an important resource. At the 103rd Commissioner’s Conference the Department’s Educator Effectiveness Coordinator solicited feedback from superintendents on a draft of the state PEPG model for teachers, and shared a comprehensive presentation that can be used as an informational tool for local development committees and as a communication tool for school officials.
While the state PEPG model is still in draft form, the presentation can be accessed on the Department’s Educator Effectiveness web pages. This self-navigable presentation begins with a general overview of system requirements and proceeds with an in-depth look at major system components, with a particular focus on using measures of student academic progress to inform the evaluation of teachers and principals.
