Do you know an outstanding volunteer or service organization making a difference in your community? Nominations are now open for the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism. Maine DOE Director of Early Learning Lee Anne Larsen had a delightful time reading with K–2 students at Atwood Primary School in RSU 18 this week! Larsen shared stories by Maine author Chris Van Dusen — Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee, If I Built a School, and Big Truck, Little Island — the experience brought lots of smiles, imagination, and joy. #ReadtoME Challenge Spotlight! Students in the 21st CCLC After School Program at Katahdin Elementary in Stacyville enjoyed a special visit from guest reader Nicki Ritchie, ELA teacher at Katahdin Middle School (Katahdin Schools)! Nicki shared two Chickadee Award books, sparking excitement, connection, and a love of reading. Thank you for helping make reading come alive for students! Another great day at the State House celebrating Career & Technical Education Month! Get to know 2026 Maine Teacher of the Year Julia Edwards (@singwithme_207)! Maine DOE School Nurse Specialist, Sarah DeCato, read "A Friend Like You" to Mrs. Merrill's first-grade class at Crescent Park Elementary School in Bethel this week for the #ReadtoMe Challenge! Maine DOE Pre-K Partnership Specialist Michelle Belanger read to Mrs. Stillman’s 4th-grade classroom at Rowe Elementary School ( @portlandpublic ) last week for the #ReadtoME challenge! We kicked off CTE Month celebrations today in the Hall of Flags with @mainecte, showcasing the incredible talent, innovation, and impact of Maine’s Career & Technical Education programs. With 11,300+ student enrollments — the highest in state history — CTE is helping prepare Maine’s future workforce through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. Educators across Maine are invited to register for a new six-part professional learning series, “Beyond Compliance: Integrated Supports for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities.” This virtual series will support collaborative, student-centered approaches that integrate language development and special education services.
