AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Education’s literacy team is conducting one-day workshops in Portland and Brewer this month to support Maine educators as they continue to develop proficiency systems in their schools. Sessions will focus on development of effective routines and strategies that have the greatest impact on student achievement.

Making a Difference through Schoolsite Health Promotion and Wellness Programs

The Maine Department of Education hosted the 2016 Maine School Wellness Summit, Inspiring the Future!, at Bates College on June 22 and 23. Just over 100 participants representing 43 school administrative units and seven school-supporting organizations joined the conference.

Maine DOE seeks districts to apply for TIF grant to support teachers and leaders in high-need schools – IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

The Maine Department of Education is in the process of applying for a third, five-year Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grant. This latest round of federal grants, called TIF 5, will expand the number of Maine Schools for Excellence (MSFE) districts and offer the opportunity for 20-30 additional high-need schools to gain access to quality educator effectiveness programs, professional development and performance-based compensation.

Maine DOE 2016 summer data training

There are many changes coming in the 2016-17 school year. In order that accurate student and staff data is reported to the Maine Department of Education, it is important that the appropriate staff attend one (or more) of these training sessions. Registration is required.

Positive school climate topic of upcoming conference

The Maine Event: National Conference on Positive School Climate at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland will be held on June 23-24. This locally-planned national conference provides training and information about key components to many successful school initiatives around building and sustaining a positive school climate, reducing bullying, and developing strategies to increase student engagement.
