On Thursday, February 26, 2026, the Maine DOE visited Sylvio Gilbert Elementary School in Augusta to recognize admired educational technician Elizabeth (Liz) Loiko as the second of two state-level nominees for the national RISE (Recognizing Inspiring School Employees) Award. This award honors the often-unsung heroes in the pre-K through 12 education workforce who provide exemplary service behind the scenes, helping to foster safe, supportive, and effective learning environments. Maine DOE Student Engagement Specialist Sarah Nelson joined the #ReadtoME Challenge this month! Sarah visited Piggly Wiggly Daycare in Belmont and The Berry Patch in Hope, sharing the joy of reading with young learners and helping inspire a lifelong love of books. Thank you for supporting early literacy across Maine! Registration is now open for the 23rd Annual MLTI Student Conference! Ready to inspire the next generation of voters? On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Maine DOE visited@caribou Caribou High School to recognize beloved custodian Larry Plourde as one of two state-level nominees for the national RISE (Recognizing Inspiring School Employees) Award. This award honors the often-unsung heroes in the pre-K through 12 education workforce who provide exemplary service behind the scenes, helping to foster safe, supportive, and effective learning environments. Integrating Literacy with Mapmaking! Discover how maps can deepen literacy learning! Join educator Renee Keul on March 6, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Osher Map Library in Portland for an interactive workshop exploring the powerful connection between literacy and mapmaking. New professional learning opportunity for Maine educators! Join the Collaborative Learning Series – “Unlocking Multilingual Learners’ Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible” to explore evidence-based strategies, collaborate with colleagues, and strengthen instruction for multilingual learners. @ha_broncos student Will created this reel after participating in the Maine DOE’s "Civics on the Road" event at his school recently! Congratulations to Kathy McNamara of Montello Elementary School in Lewiston, named the 2026 Maine School Counselor of the Year!
