New funding and resources are available to help school administrative units (SAUs) cut energy costs, improve efficiency, and upgrade facilities — including free energy audits, LED lighting retrofit funding, and federal tax credit guidance for clean energy projects. Thinking about attending the Second Annual Maine Inclusive Education Conference on April 8? Now’s the time to register! The 2026 Read to ME Challenge has kicked off, and families, caregivers, educators, and community members across Maine are invited to join in and make reading part of every day. The challenge launched yesterday when Commissioner Makin kicked off the Read to ME Challenge with second- and third-grade students at the Tremont Consolidated School (AOS91 - Mount Desert Island Regional School System) library in Bass Harbor, sharing stories and celebrating the joy of reading together. Heads up! The Maine Department of Education is looking for organizations to partner with its Summer 2026 SUN Meals Program — a federally funded effort to provide free, nutritious meals for kids when school is out for the summer. Sponsors like schools, nonprofits, government agencies, camps, and faith-based groups can apply to serve meals and help ensure no child goes hungry this summer. If you’re interested in 2026 For ME instructional programs and summer training opportunities, there’s still time to learn more. Happy National School Counseling Week (Feb. 2–6)! Maine education and cybersecurity partners are coming together on February 12, 2026 for CyberStorm ’26, the third annual statewide tabletop exercise designed to strengthen school cyber preparedness and response. The event helps school leaders test and improve coordination and readiness in the face of evolving digital threats. We’re so proud to celebrate Camden-Rockport Middle School sixth grader Hannah Smith for winning the 2026 MLTI Maine Winter Classic T-shirt Design Contest! Her creative design — featuring bold headphones and a fresh take on the MLTI logo — will be featured on the official t-shirt worn by students and educators across Maine for this year’s virtual Winter Classic event. The Community Regional Charter School spread holiday cheer this season with its first-ever Giving Room, bringing joy and support to families in need!
