Conferences let teachers learn from peers on Common Core

Four daylong conferences this August will offer teachers a chance to hear from fellow Maine teachers about:

  • reasoning and higher-order thinking skills;
  • helping students to improve their writing;
  • improving their own writing; and
  • effective math instruction based on the Common Core State Standards.

3 regional social studies workshops scheduled

Three workshop sessions designed for middle- and high-school social studies teachers will help participants connect with other social studies teachers in their region and explore ways that the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies can support thinking and learning in their content area.

Institute focuses on Positive Youth Development

UPDATED: Registration for the Positive Youth Development Institute, to be held July 23-24, remains open. The early price of $110 has been extended through the conference, and full attendance provides educators with 1.5 Continuing Education Units.

The 2012 Positive Youth Development Institute will bring together professionals from the K-12 system, after-school and summer programs, and the juvenile justice system; students; parents and others to discuss and share practices that offer all children opportunities to succeed.
