Pesticide Board seeks public input on rulemaking initiatives

Before the Maine Board of Pesticides Control initiates formal rulemaking and the public hearing process on the rules listed below, it plans to hold two public information gathering workshops, where the public is invited to offer informal comment on the proposed changes. Several of the changes affect the use of pesticides at schools. The workshops will be held during the Board’s June 15 meeting in Augusta and its July 27 meeting in Presque Isle.

Best practices for school pesticide use now available online

The Maine Board of Pesticides Control has recently developed best management practices for pesticide use on school grounds and published them on the Department of Agriculture’s integrated pest management website: thinkfirstspraylast.org/schoolipm.

Comments sought on school grounds management practice

The Maine Board of Pesticides Control will discuss draft “Best Management Practices” for the establishment and maintenance of school lawns, playgrounds, and playing fields at their Dec. 16, 2011 meeting in Fairfield. The draft document may be downloaded through this link (opens a PDF).
