Faherty Presents $25,000 Milken Award to Lewiston Teacher

LEWISTON – A second grade teacher in her twentieth year of teaching was honored at a surprise all-school assembly Monday morning with the presentation of a prestigious national teaching award, and an unrestricted check for $25,000. Maine Department of Education Commissioner Angela Faherty presented the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award to Kristie Clark in front of students, colleagues, and local and state dignitaries at Montello Elementary School in Lewiston.

Maine DOE Takes Security Steps
Security review and delay in data submission aim to bolster confidence in system
AUGUSTA – The Maine Department of Education announced today that it is taking several immediate steps to strengthen public confidence in its student and staff data information systems. These include an independent review of the security of these systems, and a decision to delay submission of student Social Security numbers to the state until after they have had a chance to review the security report.
