By law, career and technical education schools must submit regional school calendars to the Maine Department of Education by June 1, 2013. The Department must approve the calendars by July 1, 2013.

Registration for iPadagogy, a summer retreat for educators on using iPads in the K-8 classroom, is now open. This relaxing, casual retreat, held June 23-25 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, will include cutting-edge presentations by teachers, school technology staff, guest speakers and educational administrators, all sharing their expertise and experiences in the use of iPads as an educational tool.

Beginning with the April subsidy checks, General Purpose Aid for Local Schools will reflect adjustments for MaineCare Seed payments by the Maine DOE made on behalf of school administrative units in Quarter 1 (July through September 2012) and Quarter 2 (October through December 2012) for students at Special Purpose Private Schools and at public schools (attending school administrative unit).

Welcome to the April issue of Maine DOE Monthly.
Commissioner Bowen’s Promising Practices Tour has taken him to schools in Portland, Naples and Caribou this month, and he’ll make it to all nine superintendent regions before the end of the school year.
We’re also preparing to release the Maine School Performance Grading System, also known as A-F school report cards, to public schools across the state. And the Next Generation Science Standards, which Maine helped develop, were released earlier this month.
