Dozens of students from across the state took public policy proposals to Maine’s capitol on Friday, where they presented them in legislative committee rooms and discussed them in the halls of the State House.
Maine’s school nurses are invited to a three-day summer institute in July that will offer them training to help them address topics from concussions to healthy relationships to celiac disease.
Adult education practitioners are invited to the Maine Adult Education Association’s 2012 annual conference June 20-21 at Colby College in Waterville, with a day full of “pre-conference” sessions on June 19.
But NAEP results still point to need for more rigorous standards, commissioner says
AUGUSTA – Eighth graders in Maine scored higher than much of the nation in the most recent national science test, the 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress, and the state was one of only 16 to show improvement since 2009.

We have lots of hard work ahead of us in Maine as we build a public education system based on the needs of each learner – a system that recognizes that our students all learn best in different ways and at different speeds.
As we take on this important work, the plain truth is, we can’t get the job done without great teachers.
