Over the past six weeks, the Maine DOE’s Coordinated School Health Team, led by School Nurse Liaison Angie Buker, brought educators and partners together for a book study of The Biggest Little Book About Hope, inspired by Winter Wellness keynote speaker Kathryn Goetzke. From rookie to role model! Students at Windham High School (RSU14 Windham Raymond Schools) are getting a real-world, hands-on experience through a Mock CSI unit that brings learning to life in an unforgettable way. In a full-circle twist, this year’s investigation even brings past participants back into the story—showing just how powerful immersive, career-connected learning can be. The Maine Department of Education was honored to welcome a delegation from Jilin Province, China, during their recent visit to Maine. Congratulations to Maine’s young artists who used their creativity to promote tick bite prevention and Lyme disease awareness! Through the Youth Doula Initiative, South Portland High School (South Portland Schools) students are gaining hands-on experience, building professional skills, and exploring careers in healthcare while learning how to support individuals and families during one of life's most important moments. This innovative program demonstrates the power of connecting classroom learning with real-world opportunities and community needs. The Maine DOE is seeking a contractor to support the Maine Seal of Biliteracy, World Language education, and coordination of the PINE Project. At Mt. Ararat Middle School (MSAD No 75), the Sheepscot Team is showing how project-based learning can help students find belonging while developing critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills. Through hands-on projects and a team-centered approach, students are building deeper connections to their learning, their peers, and their community. The Maine Department of Education is excited to welcome 10 talented student interns who will spend the summer contributing to projects across the agency while gaining valuable professional experience and insight into public service. Congratulations to 2026 Maine Volunteer of the Year, longtime Lewiston educator Sue Pratt!
