Maine Bus Driver of Year named
School bus refurbishment: shorter subsidy turnaround in August
Fiscal Year 2012-13 subsidy is available when districts contract school bus refurbishment by August 31, 2012.

Transportation data form (EF-M-43) for year ending June 30, 2012 is not required, but due in 2013

In the interest of efficiency, productivity and service, the Maine Department of Education is working to computerize and automate school bus transportation documents, moving away from the traditional paper process. To do this, we need the help of school districts.
Please report school bus order cancellations
Will a second round of school bus purchase approvals be available for 2012-13?
Typically, each year, for a variety of reasons, a few districts decide not to purchase school buses which were approved for state subsidy. If the state receives school bus cancellations from schools then the Maine DOE can approve a second round of bus purchase approvals.

School bus refurbishment pilot program subsidy now available
Maine’s public schools now have two choices when making operational decisions about school buses.
- Refurbishment of mid-life buses in need of major body and structural repairs through the Maine Department of Education’s School Bus Refurbishment Pilot Program.
- New bus purchases through the Maine DOE’s School Bus Purchase Program.

Bus drivers offered training at regional conferences

The Maine Association for Pupil Transportation is sponsoring six free conferences this spring in every Maine region to provide training to transportation personnel in all Maine school districts.

School bus purchases approved for 2012-13
The School Bus Purchase Program award list for 2012-13 bus purchases is now available on the Maine Department of Education’s Pupil Transportation website.
School districts on the list are approved to purchase the bus or buses listed. Those districts not on the list can apply for the 2013-14 cycle of bus purchase funds between Nov. 1 and 25, 2012.
