A new military identifier implemented by the Maine Department of Education this fall will help local and State officials know which students are in military families so supports can be provided
AUGUSTA – A local partnership enhanced by the statewide efforts of Maine’s First Lady Ann LePage and the Maine Department of Education has been nationally recognized for serving students whose parents are in the military.
In a recent ceremony in Washington, D.C., ongoing collaboration between the Maine DOE, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the Kittery School Department, the Rotary Club of Kittery and the Maine Military Interstate Compact Council (MIC3) was honored with the Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award from the Military Child Education Coalition. The new Staff EPS FTE Reports provide information by SAU pertaining to current staff data as entered into the MEDMS staff reporting system and used in the EPS subsidy calculation. As your SAU begins to put the FY 15 staff data into the MEDMS reporting system, these reports will be populated. These reports will update and change nightly every time new data is entered or changed until we freeze the data on December 1 for the upcoming FY 16 EPS subsidy calculation.

MEDMS helpdesk staff are additionally available to provide technical assistance at MEDMS.helpdesk@maine.gov or 207-624-6896.
Please note that this notification is different from the NEO based HQT data collection requirement discussed in a recent Commissioner’s Update.
Maine school administrative units (SAUs) have been completing the Educator Quality and Effectiveness Survey initiated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) annually since 2010. The survey data has been collected through the Maine Education Data Management System (MEDMS). Certain data elements of this survey are required for the Department’s annual federal reporting and other elements related to teacher and principal performance evaluation and professional growth (PE/PG) are now being collected by the Department’s educator effectiveness coordinator. As a result and building upon the feedback collected from previous year’s surveys, the Department is implementing a new process for the data collection.
