The Maine DOE released the 2015-16 transition funds to Maine school administrative units. The proficiency-based education transition grants, awarded annually to school administrative units since Oct. 2013, are intended to be used to support schools’ transition to proficiency-based learning and the awarding of proficiency-based diplomas.

Assistant Superintendent Emil Genest of Regional School Unit 22 has been named Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Maine School Superintendents Association. The award was presented at an October annual meeting citing Genest for his expertise in finance and school construction.

In an effort to further clarify the expectations of ME Dept. of Education Regulation, Chapter 180 and the Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth (PEPG) development process the Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE) is offering this guidance for all Maine School Administrative Units (SAUs). It is important to remember the 2015-2016 is the pilot year for all districts to develop and adjust their PEPG systems. Public Law 2015, Chapter 18 changed the pilot year. This bill was effective April 12, 2015.

Big changes are on the horizon in the way school personnel will receive credentialing in Maine. January of 2016, there will be an announcement to explain the changes to all personnel renewing certificates in 2016.
