MAHPERD conference celebrating 70 years

Educators are encouraged to register now for the annual Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) conference on Nov. 1-3 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. For this 70-year anniversary of the conference, New England Patriots former tight-end Jermaine Wiggins will join as special guest.

School bus replacement and retrofit rebate program

The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC) is now accepting applications for the 2015 School Bus Replacement and Retrofit Funding opportunity. This is a rebate program to replace and retrofit older school buses in both the public and private fleets. The total funding for this opportunity is approximately $7 million which is up from the $3 million in awards last year, the second year of the campaign. Applications are being accepted now through Oct. 30.

Local education agency indirect cost rate proposal webinar

The Maine DOE has contracted with MAXIMUS Consulting Services to provide indirect cost rate proposal (ICRP) services to the Department, the State’s local education agencies (LEAs) and other entities that receive federal funds through Maine DOE and are interested in learning more about the recovery of indirect costs from their federal funds.

Input sought for teacher shortage areas

The Maine DOE has been notified of the requirement to submit Maine teacher shortage areas by Dec. 10 for designation by the U.S. Department of Education (U.S. DOE) for the 2016-17 school year. The U.S. DOE annually designates teacher shortage areas for purposes of deferment of loan repayments or reductions of teaching obligation under the following student loan programs:

Invitation to participate in NECAP science inquiry task field test

Maine DOE is recruiting schools again this year to serve as field testing sites to administer the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) Science Inquiry Tasks in grades 5, 8, and 11. This opportunity allows Maine educators to see science performance assessment tasks in action. The field tests will occur between Nov. 2 and Nov. 20.
