This year marked the 12th anniversary of Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community’s free day-long conference, Totally Trades, which encourages girls in grades 8-12 to consider careers in fields traditionally dominated by men.

Tentative IDEA Part B Local Entitlement allocations available
The tentative Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B Local Entitlement allocations for the 2016 fiscal year are available here on the Maine DOE’s Office of Special Services website. Preschool fund awards are still being determined. Final award notices will be sent in the coming weeks at which time the Local Entitlement applications will be opened for completion.

The Maine DOE Office of Special Services has completed revisions of the following forms: Individualized Education Program (IEP), Written Notice, Optional 7-Day Waiver, and Learning Disability Evaluation Report. They are now posted on our website at www.maine.gov/doe/specialed/forms/.
Maine DOE offers one-on-one support for new NCLB coordinators
The Maine DOE is offering face-to-face training in July to provide guidance to new coordinators for Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)/No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Titles and use of federal grant funds.

SAUs agree on pathways for students in special purpose private schools
Students who are placed by their school administrative unit in a special purpose private school must be assured of a pathway to graduation from that SAU. That assurance, and a description of the pathway, is documented in a written agreement signed by both the SAU and the SPPS for each student at the SPPS.

Department announces upcoming Diploma Institute aimed at dropout prevention
The Maine DOE in collaboration with Clemson University’s National Dropout Prevention Network will hold a two-day Diploma Institute for selected schools. The event will be hosted by Wayfinder School in New Gloucester and will feature national experts in the area of dropout prevention who will provide training and technical assistance to assist in the development of comprehensive dropout prevention plans.
