Statement on the passing of Kevin Grover

Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen issued the following statement Sunday regarding the death of Kevin Grover of Falmouth.

“Kevin’s death is an enormous shock and very, very sad for all of us. As Teacher of the Year, Kevin made a tremendous impact on all of education in Maine, working tirelessly and serving as a role model for educators across the state. I express my deepest condolences to all of his families –­ his wife and children, the D.W. Lunt,  Falmouth Elementary and Falmouth Schools communities, and to educators throughout the state who knew him and worked with him.”

Commission approves sciences charter school

CORRECTION: The original posting of this story included an incorrect start date. Baxter plans to open its doors to students in September 2013. Corrected version is below.

AUGUSTA – The Maine Charter School Commission voted Friday to approve the application from the Baxter Academy for Technology and Science to move to the contract phase that will result in becoming the first public charter school in Maine’s history focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It will be the third charter school approved by the Commission.

MaineCare Seed payment adjustments pending; review reports by Nov. 27

Beginning with the November subsidy checks, General Purpose Aid for Local Schools will reflect adjustments for MaineCare Seed payments by the Maine DOE made on behalf of school administrative units in March, April, May and June 2012 for students at Special Purpose Private Schools.
