Feedback sought on Smarter Balanced content

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium recently released the third draft of its specifications for content that will appear on the next-generation, computer-adaptive assessments the consortium is developing in time for the 2014-15 academic year.

The consortium is now looking for feedback on that content from educators — especially those who are familiar with the Common Core state standards.

Beginning in 2014-15, the Smarter Balanced assessment will replace Maine’s current New England Common Assessment Program and SAT as the state’s standardized assessment for English language arts and math. The Smarter Balanced assessment will use the content from the above specifications to develop test questions.

The deadline for submitting feedback on the content specifications is Friday, March 16. The specifications are available for download from the Smarter Balanced website.

Maine is a governing state in the 28-state Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, which is one of two partnerships nationally at work developing student assessments to replace the current variety of standardized tests used by individual states. The Smarter Balanced assessments are to be based on the Common Core State Standards for math and English language arts.
