Today was a great day for recognizing excellent teachers and showcasing their work. I was honored to start the day by announcing that Peter Barlow is the newest Maine CTE Teacher of the Year. A few hours later, I was congratulating four teachers for becoming Presidential Award finalists at a conference for science teachers in Gardiner.
Governor LePage and I have spent as much time as possible visiting different regions to see Maine’s CTE programs in action. We’re continuously impressed by both the teachers’ determination to send highly skilled graduates into the workforce and the students’ eagerness to enhance their educational experience in CTE classrooms.
At the Maine Science Teachers Association conference, educators discussed the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, which will define the science content and concepts that students must learn in order to be successful in today’s society and work place.
I love it when I can get out of the office and see Maine’s great teachers in action.
