ROCKPORT – Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen will speak to the Rockland Kiwanis Club Monday about his department’s commitment to seeing all Maine students leave school college and career ready.
In his remarks as the guest speaker at the June 10 lunchtime Kiwanis meeting at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Commissioner Bowen will share how the Maine Department of Education is increasingly a resource to districts in developing and deploying the best practices that ensure educator effectiveness and high student achievement.
He’ll also discuss the school improvement work spurred by the Maine School Performance Grading System he and Governor Paul R. LePage announced last month as part of their shared commitment to reforming education through accountability, community engagement and student mastery of high standards.
Following his presentation, Commissioner Bowen, a former social studies teacher who lives in Rockport, will take questions and feedback as to how his department’s work to put students first can complement the Kiwanis Club mission of serving children.
The media is encouraged to attend.
Fellow Commissioner Patrick Keliher of the Maine Department of Marine Resources will be speaking to the group at their Monday, June 24 meeting and Commissioner George Gervais of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development will be the guest on Monday, Sept. 23.
