Maine DOE awards ConnectME technology grants

The Maine DOE’s Office of Adult Education and Family Literacy awarded twelve $5,000 ConnectME technology grants to adult education programs and four $2,500 technology grants to literacy volunteer programs to enhance the capacity of the organizations to effectively utilize the state’s expanding broadband capacity.

The grants provide for the purchase of equipment such as computers and network gear as well as supporting professional development in integrating technology for teaching and learning. The Department is collaborating with ConnectME, the state agency charged with expanding Maine’s internet capacity, and the Maine Adult Education Association to provide free training to citizens on how the enhanced internet connectivity can be used for education, enrichment, economic development, and accessing vital health information.

The technology grants and professional development opportunities are supported by an award from the National Telecommunications Information Administration through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the State Broadband Data and Development Grant Program.
