NAEP tools available, board members sought

The National Assessment Governing Board, which oversees the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), has unveiled a Back-to-School section on its website with resources for schools and stakeholders to prepare students for the upcoming assessment.

From Jan. 26 through March 6, a sample of Maine’s students at grades 4, 8 and 12 will be participating in NAEP paper and pencil assessments in reading, mathematics or science. By 2017, all NAEP assessments will be taken on electronic tablets.

In addition, the National Assessment Governing Board is seeking nominations through Oct. 31 for eight new members from a variety of backgrounds, including superintendent and curriculum specialist. More information about being a board member, including videos created by current members that highlight the value of NAEP and the importance of the governing board, is available here.
