Maine DOE warns of scam targeting schools

The Maine DOE is warning schools to think twice before paying invoices from a Las Vegas based company calling itself Scholastic School Supply.

The biller has no ties to Scholastic, Inc., which has a long history of providing educational materials to many Maine schools, nor have they provided Maine schools any supplies. The $647.50 invoices claim to be for Common Core aligned workbooks.

Several Maine schools including those in Aroostook and Somerset counties have reported being solicited through the scam, as have hundreds of schools across other the nation.

The Department encourages schools to review all invoices received closely and not to pay any received from Scholastic School Supply for materials that were never ordered and/or received. Additionally, any bogus invoices received should be forwarded to Martha Currier in the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office at martha.currier@maine.gov.
