The Maine DOE is encouraging district staff to join Shane Morrisey from the U.S. Department of Education and Baron Rodriguez from the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) as they cover PTAC’s latest guidance document: Protecting Student Privacy While Using Online Educational Services: Model Terms of Service during a webinar at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13.
The webinar will provide a general overview of federal privacy laws and help participants navigate frequently used terms of service agreements.
By understanding commonly used provisions and the U.S. DOE’s best practices, districts will be better able to understand how a given online service or app will collect, use and/or transmit personally identifiable information from users so that they can then decide whether to sign up for these sorts of apps in the future and help users make better decisions about what sort of applications they want operating in their school or classroom.
